Oklahoma Overcomes SMU in Hard-Fought Victory

Oklahoma remains undefeated after a gritty 28-17 win over SMU, but the Sooners’ performance raised questions about their offense. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel struggled at times, throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns but also committing two turnovers that allowed SMU to keep the game close.

Oklahoma’s defense, however, was up to the task, holding SMU to just 306 total yards and coming up with key stops in the red zone. Head coach Brent Venables praised his defense for their resilience but acknowledged that the offense needs to execute more efficiently moving forward.

The win keeps Oklahoma in the hunt for the Big 12 title, but with matchups against Texas and Kansas looming, the Sooners will need to shore up their offensive inconsistencies to stay competitive.
